Agnes Gertrude Ohnmacht, 102, died March 31, 2012, at The Legacy at Parkview, Ulysses, Kansas.
She was born May 30, 1909, in Olmitz, Kansas, the daughter of Mary (Mayne) Corrigan and Andrew Hickey.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned where she was active with the Altar Society and in later years was a Laudator for the youth Religious Formation classes at the Sacred Heart Catholic parish. She graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, Kansas, May 18, 1928. She received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays College and began teaching for 3 years in a one-room school house in the Olmitz area.
She belonged to the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital ladies auxiliary and was a Gray Lady at Larned State Hospital for many years. She was very active with the Better Homemakers HDU club and was a 4H project leader, teaching knitting classes. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She always had a large vegetable and flower garden. She and Paul operated a cattle and wheat farm southwest of Larned. Upon his death she moved into Larned until her health began to fail. She then moved to Ulysses, Kansas to be closer to her daughter, Rita in Nov. of 2007.
On October 6, 1931, she married Paul Werner Ohnmacht at Olmitz. They lived and farmed north of Olmitz until they moved to Larned, Kansas in 1947. He died March 19, 1981.
Survivors include: two daughters, Rita and Calvin Hall, Ulysses, Sheila and Leonard Fleske, Great Bend, two sons, Alvin and Lynn Ohnmacht, Crestline, California, Darrell and Wauneta Ohnmacht, Amity, OR. Eight grandchildren, Debbie & Roger Crane, Herald, California, Greg & Amy Ohnmacht, Los Osos, California, Laura & Elmer Schmitz, Highland, Kansas, Denise & Randy Dowell, Ulysses, Kansas, Terri Leiker, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Steve & Kim Leiker, Ulysses, Kansas, Wendy & Keith Hansen, Atlanta, Georgia, Carey & Jenney Fleske, Kansas City. Twelve great grandchildren and great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by triplet daughters, Agnes Aileen, Mary Eileen, and Ann Arleen; two brothers, Clarence and Henry Hickey; five sisters, Sister Mary Patricia Hickey, Annie Bahr, Rosie Bahr, Ellen Hickey and Florence Stickney; three granddaughters, Joyce Ann Ohnmacht Kozach, Lisa Ohnmacht Koehn, Dawn White Dinning; one great grandchild, Victoria Rachelle Dowell.
Vigil Service will be at 7p.m. Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned City Cemetery, Larned.
