Obituary

Rozel - Albertine "Al" Mildred Sauer Stewart, 85, died, May 11, 2008 at Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge, Kansas.

She was born May 28, 1922 in Antonino, the daughter of Anton G. and Pauline Rupp Sauer. A resident of Rozel since Aug. 1990, she was a Homemaker.

As a homemaker, she enjoyed such hobbies as: embroidery, crocheting, knitting, baking cakes and decorating, and candy making. Gardening and canning, raising quail, chickens, rabbits and bucket calves were her outside hobbies.

She enlisted in the WAC's in September 1943 at the age of 21 and served until April 1946, when the WWII was declared over with the rank of TEC 4. She was stationed at Des Moines, IA where she had basic training as a cook, butcher and baker. Served at Camp Grant, Ft. Sheridan, Camp McCoy, and Chicago, all of Illinois.

On Feb. 16, 1948 she married Oliver M. Stewart at Mobile, Alabama. He died Dec. 30, 1989.

Survivors include; two brothers, H. (Fritz) Sauer and wife Carolyn, Garden City, Jerome (Joe) Sauer and wife Martha, Rozel, a sister, Irene Leiker, Valley Center, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by; a sister, Katie Dodson, and a brother I.A. Sauer.

Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Rozel Cemetery with the Reverend Rich Zimmerman presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Rozel Cemetery, Rozel, Kansas.
