Larned – Alice Elizabeth Hughes, 77, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Larned.

She was born June 10, 1940 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of William and Julia Knoche Hoelzel. A longtime area resident, moving from Kansas City, MO, she worked as the supervisor for over 30 years in the kitchen at the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member for 30 plus years of the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned. She was known for her strong work ethic, a servant heart and unselfish love for others. She served as an Ombudsman leading in singing, Bible study, and mail distribution among many other acts of giving at the Nursing Home. She also gave tirelessly through the Food Pantry, Fit-N-Take, and many bible classes, VBS's, and various other activities at the church. Alice loved singing to the Lord. She especially loved singing favorite hymns in both church and at the nursing home as well as leading others in singing to Jesus her Lord. This she did from her early days and throughout life.

On October 2, 2005, she married Robert Hughes in Larned. He survives.

Other survivors include: daughter, Theresa (Steve) Bogart, Conifer, CO; daughter, Elizabeth (Bryan) Scott, Meeker, OK; son, William (Susie) Hughes, Purdy, MO; daughter, Patricia (Robert) Plotner, Larned; three brothers, Jim (Katherine) Hoelzel, Bill (Ann) Hoelzel and Frank (Carol) Hoelzel, all of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Julia (Tim) Watton, Garden City, MO and Mary (Allen) Cook, Belton, MO and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Service will be held in her honor at First Southern Baptist Church in Larned on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2 p.m.
