Burdett – Anna May (Ann) Lynam, 92, passed away July 4, 2017 at the Olathe Health Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Larned, at the home of her parents, the daughter of William R. and Mabel B. (Buck) Marley. She graduated from Larned High School in 1943 and attended the University of Kansas. Following graduation she worked as the secretary at Larned High School and as a telephone operator. After college she was the receptionist at Cade Clinic in Larned. She lived in Pawnee and Hodgeman County for most of her life.
She enjoyed gardening, working outside, refinishing antique furniture, woodworking, building or repairing about anything, oil and water painting, sewing, quilting and crafting. She also researched and compiled the genealogy of all branches of her extended family. She enjoyed working with young children and taught the nursery class at Burdett United Methodist Church for 25 years. She also operated her own pre-school while living on the farm and later in Burdett.
She was a member of the Larned United Methodist Church and later the Burdett United Methodist Church, where she served as historian for the church for twenty-five years and also compiled the historical document "Pawnee County Schools Used as Methodist Churches". She was also a member of DAR, and a charter member of the Kansas and National Cattle Women.
On May 9, 1948, she married Charles William Lynam in Larned, and they spent the next 38 years on the family farm west of Burdett before moving into Burdett in 1986.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda (James) Arnold, Holdrege, NE and Patricia Stowe, Olathe; son, Earl Lynam, Larned; sister, Shirley (Carrol) McHenry, El Dorado, KS; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hanson, Highlands Ranch, CO, Aaron Arnold, St. Joseph, MO and Rebeka Stowe, Princeton, NJ; four great grandchildren, Alex, Charlie and Caroline Hanson and August Arnold.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Lynam; son, William W. (Bill) Lynam and three brothers, Roy, Earl and Glenn Marley, who all served in WWII.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Burdett, with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Brown's Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
