Larned – Dr. Arthur Daryl Apley, 85, passed away February 17, 2018 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born August 7, 1932 in Clay Center, and grew up on a farm in Washington County, Kansas; the son of Kenneth R. and Beulah Mae Young Apley. He received a BS in Agriculture and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from KSU. A longtime area resident, he was owner and operator of Apley Veterinary Clinic.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Larned Historical Society, Pawnee County Humane Society, volunteer for the Pawnee County 4-H and was a part of the visiting pet program at Larned State Hospital for the children and adolescent units all of Larned. He was a member of American Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, Artillery Division and the Guided Missile program.
On August 16, 1953 he married Nadine Lillian Schmidt in Colby. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Steve (Jan) Apley, Larned, Mike (Kathryn) Apley, Manhattan; daughter, Susan Bradley and husband Brad Beachy, Wichita; brother, Martyn Apley; sister, Carolyn (Keith) Jeffers; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Anne, Douglas, Kyle, Aaron, Adam, Amie and eleven great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be at a later date.
