Larned – Betty L. Schartz, 87, passed away February 23, 2017 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
She was born June 19, 1929, in Pawnee County, the daughter of David and Nellie Fillman Henning. A lifetime area resident, she was a farm wife/homemaker and was the church organist for many years at Ingalls, Ellinwood and Belpre.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary, all of Larned.
On January 26, 1949, she married Mark Schartz in Belpre. He survives.
Other survivors include: eight children, Marian Reynolds, Pittsburg, KS., Donna Woods, Cimarron, KS., David Schartz, Green, KS., Carl (Pam) Schartz, Liberal, KS., Bernice (David) Rebein, Dodge City, KS., Stephen (Sara) Schartz, Cimarron, KS., Brian Schartz, Dodge City, KS., Rita (Bill) Hommertzheim, Cimarron, KS.; twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Kenneth Henning; sister, Juanita Wolf and a son-in-law, Rusty Woods.
Rosary and Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Belpre Catholic Cemetery, Belpre.
