Blanche Mary Fern Courtney's Obituary
Larned - Blanche Mary Fern Courtney, 94, died November 28, 2010 at her daughter's home in Sumter, South Carolina.
She was born December 20, 1915 in Franklin County, Kansas the youngest child of Charles and Clara Curtis Adams. A former resident of Larned moving from Gove Kansas in 1956, she retired in 1978 from the Larned State Hospital where she was a Psychiatric Aid.
She completed a year of college at Emporia State Teachers College and then taught school in Western Kansas. She remained a faithful and active member of the United Methodist Church of Larned until her health failed. She spent many hours working in the church's Budget Shop, teaching Sunday school, and in the Rachel Circle of the Methodist Women. She enjoyed sending birthday and other greeting cards to family and friends.
On October 1, 1939 she married Eulice James (E.J.) Courtney at Rantoul, Kansas. He died January 12, 1972.
Survivors include: two sons, Glen Lee, Great Bend, Raymond, and wife Judith, Salina; a daughter Linda Browning, and husband Donald, Sumter, South Carolina; a brother, Glenn Adams, Ottawa, Kansas; grandchildren, Marnie Witzke and husband Dale, Wichita, Kansas, Jesslyn Buss, and husband Jim, McPherson, Kansas, Millie Hazuka, Macksville, Kansas, Sam Courtney and wife Doreen, Norton, Kansas, Steven Browning, London, UK, Karen Steen and husband Robert, Charlotte, North Carolina, Dwayne Lively and Wife Keiko, Kawagoe, Japan, and Angela Thompson and Fiance' Shodd Redmond, Crestview, Flordia; seventeen gret-granchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edna, Edith, Esther Adams and a daughter-in-law Becky Courtney.
Funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Bill Fitzgerrel presiding. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Saturday, 1 P.M. to 8 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.
