Larned - Bruce Merle Jantz, 81, died April 2, 2008 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge.
He was born January 12, 1927 in Pawnee County. The son of Adolph Lawrence and Susie Ruth Koehn Jantz. He was an operator at the Otis Helium Plant and also the Cemetery Sexton for the City of Larned.
He was a lifetime area resident. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Larned. A lifetime member of the VFW post # 7271, the Paralyzed V.A. – Gateway Chapter of St. Louis, Missouri, a member of the American Legion Post # 0106, and the Spinal Cord Injury Unit, Wichita V.A. and Jefferson Barracks of St. Louis, Missouri.
On April 26, 1985 he married Wilda Joan Deighton, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.
Other survivors include; a son, Mark, Garden City; a daughter, Leann Simmons and husband Kevin, Larned; two step-daughters, Pam Adams and husband Kenny, Dodge City, Lisa Jacobs and husband Randy, Scott City; a sister, Dorothy Schurmann, Spencer, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brandon Racette, Hays, Ty Racette and wife Sarah, Kings Mountain, North Carolina; Eight step-grandchildren, Michael Racette, Red Cloud , Nebraska, Azure Miller and husband Aaron, Lawrence, Jeremy Jacobs and wife Raquel, Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Tara Doorman and husband Shane, Cimarron, Krista Simmons, Wichita, Brett Simmons, Whitman Air Force Base, Missouri, Chad Simmons, Memphis, Tennessee, Nick Adams, Wichita; six great grandchildren, Savannah Racette, Wichita, Nebraska, Conner Doorman, Cimarron, Kinley Miller, Lawrence, Micah Jacobs, Judah Jacobs and Lillie Jacobs all of Ft. Mills, South Carolina. Three nieces, Carol Vrooman, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Judy Dirks Cole, Kansas City, Kansas, Suzanne Hildebrand, Norwalk, Iowa and a nephew, David Schurman, Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by; a sister, Dorrace Dirks.
Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel and Chaplin Vernon Bogart presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Beckwith Mortuary, P.O. Box 477, Larned, KS 67550. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
