Obituary

Jetmore – Darlene R. Smith, 89, passed away November 29, 2016, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

She was born March 9, 1927, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of Nicholas and Irene Beck Hahn. A lifetime area resident, and a recent resident of Regent Park, Wichita, she taught school for two years at Keroma Country School, one year of music at Jetmore Grade School and worked at the Jetmore Post office for thirteen years and served as the postmaster for four and half years.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women, and choir director for over sixty years, taught Sunday school and Bible School. She was also a member of the Lion's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, National Association Retired Federal Employee, 4-H leader and was the treasurer for the Jetmore Senior Center for six years, all of Jetmore.

On May 9, 1947, she married Raymond L. Smith in Jetmore. She assisted Raymond in many ways with the farm and ranch operation. He passed away April 18, 1988.

Survivors include: three sons, Randy Smith, Wichita, Scott (Sue) Smith, Jetmore, Dr. Lindy (Suzi) Smith, Wichita; daughter, Charliss (Shawn) Hoebener, Wichita; brother, Bill (Jackie) Hahn, Kansas City; sister, Marilyn Portlock, Houston, TX; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Rynerson, John (Pete) and Jim Kelsey, sister, Gloria Byam, two granddaughters, Rachael Hoebener and Janessa Smith.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
