February 5, 1940 – December 13, 2020
Larned – David B. Welch, 80, passed away December 13, 2020 at University of Kansas Health System Pawnee Valley Campus.
He was born February 5, 1940 in Great Bend, the son of John and Essie Baugher Welch.
A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/rancher his entire life as well as a contract pumper in the oilfield. Many years he and his father raised and traveled the show circuit with Welch Polled Hereford Cattle winning many awards. He attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with a bachelors in agriculture; while there he was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Larned.
Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia (Tom) Holaday, Garfield; a son, John D. Welch, Larned; companion, Coreen Augustine, Larned; a sister, Edwyna (Bob)Barstow, Crozet, Virginia; four grandchildren, Christina (Derek) Blain, Garfield, David (Daisy) Welch, Kinsley, Heather (Jacob Woods) Holaday, Larned, Luke Welch, Larned; and five great grandchildren, Logan, Brecklynn, John, Matthew, and Theo; and many nieces and nephews and Floyd, the cat that thinks he's human.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lavina Scheuerman and Linda Drews.
A private family service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary . Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, with family present from 7-8 pm, at Beckwith Mortuary. A public graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. at Garfield Cemetery, Garfield. Friends are invited to join in a funeral procession from Beckwith Mortuary to Garfield Cemetery by way of David's farmstead, procession will leave the mortuary at 10:45 a.m.
