Jetmore – Donald E. McWhirt, 79, died December 13, 2011, at the Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, Jetmore.
He was born July 16, 1932, at Cherryvale, Ks., the son of Charles H. and Nellie M. Sawyer McWhirt. He was retired from being a Jetmore High School Principal and a Superintendent for USD 227.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, American Legion and a Mason, all of Jetmore. He was in the United States Army.
On August 14, 1955, he married Helen Curry in Dodge City. She died June 16, 2006.
Survivors include: a daughter, Melaney Vogel and husband John, Dodge City; a brother, three sisters, Dorothy Sees, Denver, CO.; Edna Lee Ditmore, Houston, TX., and Charlotte Marchant, Cherryvale, KS.; one grandson, Matthew Vogel, Dodge City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. McWhirt; a grandson, Michael Vogel and a granddaughter, Melynn Vogel.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham and Carolyn Tarman presiding. Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
Memorials may be sent to the McWhirt Family Scholarship Fund through the Southwest Community Foundation, Hodgeman County Community Foundation, Hodgeman County Health Center and Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
