Larned – Dorothy R. Schmidt, 86, died January 28, 2006 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

She was born October 5, 1919 in Pawnee County. The daughter of Thomas and Erma Searcy Salmans. She was a lifetime resident of Edwards and Pawnee county, she was a retired secretary in the purchasing office at Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW
Auxiliary, all of Larned. She was a Shriner's widow.

On August 13, 1938, she married Roy Mead at Stafford Kansas. He died January 13, 1972. She later married Basil Schmidt June 30,1978 at Cimarron. He is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Karen Lewis, Larned; a brother, Robert Salmans, Larned; and sisters, Helen Vratil, Larned; Maxine Martin, Larned; three grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Mead; brothers: Lawrence Salmans, Kenneth Salmans; two sisters: Lois Ellis, and Clare Thorpe.

Funeral will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Dan Lungren presiding. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 9:00 am until service time on Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.
