Doyle Cooper Foster died at the age of 91 years on February 10, 2007. He was born in Pawnee Rock, Kansas January 30, 1916 the son of Mel and Ella Cooper Foster. He married Maxine Brannan of Larned on July 16, 1941, in McDonald, Kansas who was his devoted wife for over 65 years.
Doyle graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1934 where he started all 4 years on the Varsity Basketball team. He graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1938 as one of the first members of the Lewis Field Pioneers. He taught briefly in Larned until World War II. At that time, he was accepted into the Navy's Gene Tuney Program where he served his country as a Chief Petty Officer. He and Maxine were stationed at the Quonset Point base in Rhode Island where they enjoyed many a fine seafood dinner. After World War II, they returned to Kansas where he taught in Radium School system. At this time, he and Maxine began farming near Radium. He later received his Masters from Fort Hays State College in School Administration. He became Superintendent of the Radium Schools System and remained there in this role until the consolidation of schools moved him to Macksville. Soon after, he accepted a position as the Principal of Larned Junior High. He remained there until his retirement in 1983.
Throughout his life, Doyle and Maxine stayed active in farming, cattle and semi-professional fishing.
Doyle was preceded in death by his mother and father, twin sisters and a niece Verdell Pfister Oliverson.
Along with his wife, Maxine, he is survived by his children, Robert Doyle Foster, Larned, Kathleen Marie Foster, Hutchinson, two grandchildren and spouses, David Robert and Lynette Foster, Jami Foster Davis and Travis, and his great grand-daughter Phoebe Marie Davis, his sister, Velda Foster Pfister, Jim Oliverson, Kimberly Murrison and his little dog Muffin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15th, at the First United Methodist Church, Larned with the Reverend Bob Gleason and Reverend Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
