Obituary

Dwight Lee Smith, 92, died December 17, 2009 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born August 3, 1917 in Hodgeman County, the son of Curtis D. and Blanche H. Haywood Smith. A Larned resident since 1936 moving from the Hanston-Jetmore area; he was a painter.

He was baptized in the United Methodist Church of Jetmore, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion both of Larned, and was a Custodian at the Fort Larned National Historical Site and retired in 1982.

Survivors include; his life partner; Grace Miller, Larned, a brother; Clarence, San Diego, California, two sisters; Eleanor Adams, St. John and Lola Shannon, Springfield, Missouri and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by; four brothers; Maurice, Clyde, Bernard, Harold, and two sisters; Helen Hallings and Alice Harris.

Graveside Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Larned Cemetery with Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel presiding. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, with Military Graveside rites provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
