Obituary

Elaine K. Russett, 75, passed away November 4, 2024 at Edwards County Medical Center, Kinsley.

She was born September 29, 1949 in Emporia, the daughter of Daniel Homer and Teresa "Tiny" Korphage Matile.

A longtime area resident, she was a former office manager at Dodge City Sand, a paraprofessional in numerous schools and an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, both of Kinsley, and a previously active member of St. Lawrence Church, Jetmore. She was 4-H club leader and horse project leader. In her youth she was a 4-H and FFA Sweetheart. In 1967 she was the high school breakaway roping champion for the state of Kansas and qualified for nationals at Elko, Nevada. She was runner up for Miss Rodeo Kansas, and won the horsemanship phase of the contest. In 1976 and 1986 she qualified and participated in the mixed team roping championships held at Elko, Nevada. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

On October 21, 1972 she married Fay O. Russett at Strong City; he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Farold Justin Russett, Kinsley, Flint Shea (Courtney Pollard) Russett, Garden City; three brothers, D.J. Matile and friend Lois, Herington, Joe Matile, Sublette, Gene (Paula) Matile, Elmdale, Kansas; sister-in-law, Annette Russett, Hutchinson; Goddaughter, Makayla Matile; nephew, Shane (Emily) Matile; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Travis Wade Russett.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Strong City, with Father Andrew Seiler presiding. Rosary will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Strong Township Cemetery, Strong City.

A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2024 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley, with Father Tim Hickey presiding.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the ALS Association in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550. Personal condolences may be left at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
