Pawnee Rock – Eric L. Roof, 73, passed away May 15, 2023 at Hays Medical Center in Hays.

He was born September 26, 1949 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of George and Dorothy Scott Roof.

A longtime area resident he was a safety and security officer at Larned State Hospital and served in the United States Army and United States Navy. He was a Member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW, both of Larned. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking walks around Pawnee Rock with his dog Jaden, and watching and playing baseball.

On July 8, 1972 he married Nicki Rae Selsor at Larned; she preceded him in death on May 9, 2018.

Survivors include: son, Michael Roof, Gardner; grandson, Nolan Christopher Roof, Gardner; sister, Diana Weiser, Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Nelson, Lincolnville, Judy Watson, Rose Hill; three brothers-in-law, John Selsor, Bowie, Texas, Darrell Selsor, Wichita, Forrest Selsor, Junction City; three cousins, Larry Brayton, Topeka, Kim and Richard Brayton, Lyons, Daniel Brayton, Oklahoma; aunt, Sue Brower, Lyons; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nicki, and a son, Christopher Roof.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned with Pastor David Spare presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in Pawnee Rock Cemetery with military graveside rites.
