Obituary

Jetmore – Evelyn J. Hertel, 77, passed away February 8, 2017 at the Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore.

She was born April 1, 1939, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of Harry B. and Mildred Hull Hamm. A lifetime area resident, she was a retired cook at the Hodgeman County Grade School, Jetmore.

She attended the United Methodist Church and Red Hat Ladies both of Jetmore. She loved her family, gardening, cooking, traveling, Kansas Jayhawks Basketball and playing pitch with her friends.

On March 19, 1959, she married Dean Hertel in Jetmore. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Joe (Maxine) Hertel, Dodge City and Jay Hertel, Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Angie Hertel, Dodge City; two sisters, Eleanor (Norm) Pitts, Jetmore and Karen (Gary) Millen, Brier, Washington; brother, Gerald, (Cindy ) Hamm, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Hertel; sister, Betty Blazic and a brother, Clifford Hamm.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Jetmore, with Pastor Cyd Stein and Pastor Jeff Blackburn presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Cremation will follow the service and Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Jetmore United Methodist Church or the Hodgeman County Health Center in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Box 663 Jetmore, KS 67854.
