Larned – (Frances) June Fischer, 82, passed away December 9, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned.
She was born July 22, 1939 in Marlin, Texas, the daughter of Thomas and Marie Rhodes and R.B. Cowan. June was an Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Lee Fischer. They were married on June 11, 1960, in Dallas, Texas.
When they returned to Larned, June was homemaker and mother, and completed her degree in Home Economics at Fort Hays State University. Later, she became a business woman as first a caterer, then the owner of The Hayloft. She was also a member of the Garden Club and J.F.R, a 4-H leader, and volunteer at the Santa Fe Trail Center and Larned Elementary School as "The Picture Lady." As a charter member of the Larned Red Hat Society, June served as their first Queen Bee.
Family was very important to June, and she loved babysitting her grandkids and attending their activities. She was an amazing cook, and her meals were enjoyed by family, friends, and her "summer sons" who worked on the farm. She and Lee shared a passion for travel and visited six continents and over 60 countries during their years together.
She is survived by her husband Lee. Other survivors include: two sons, Paul (Del) Fischer, and Bryan (Shannon) Fischer, both of Larned; two daughters, Karen (Barry) Walker, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shelly (Kevin) Speer, Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Susan (Mike) Dieterich, Brenham, Texas and Jan Cardenas, Aldeo, Texas; a brother, Mark Rhodes, Spokane, Washington, and nine grandchildren, Garrett Walker, Thomas Reams, Taralyn Walker, Libby Reams, Carlan Walker, Katie Fischer, Luke Fischer, Kira Speer, and Casey Speer.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Larned United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.
