Larned – George R. Sydow, 87, died December 27, 2009 at Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita, Kansas.
He was born March 5, 1922 at Lincoln Nebraska, the son of George Frederick and Rose Mae Burge Sydow. He was a Master Mechanic , working for a Chevron Station in Vernon City of Industry, Los Angles, California. He retired from U.S. Army serving 18 years. He served in WWII, Korea, and New Guinea Southern Philippines where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was a member of Marry & Martha Episcopal Church, Evening Lions Club, V.F.W., all of Larned.
On Sept. 11, 1950, he married Eleanor Murillo in Isleta County, El Paso, Texas. She died September 29, 1982. On June 21, 1998 he married Rosella Marie Paxton at Chadron, Nebraska. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons; George, Odessa, Texas, Tony, Marfa, Texas; three daughters, Shirley Sydow, Odessa, Texas, Romona Zubiate, Marfa, Texas, Virginia Chan, Los Angles, California; a brother, Bob, Guernsey, Wyoming; four sisters, Mary Walters, Betty Walters, Eagle Butte, South Dakota, Jenny Reicks, Whitman, Nebraska, Iona Abold, Crawford, Nebraska; fifteen grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary and Martha Episcopal Church, Larned, with Father Mark Cowell presiding. Friends sign the register from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned.
