Obituary

George A Towns 96 born Oct 16, 1928. A beloved figure of Larned, Kansas left our world on May 18th 2025 at Medicalodge of Kinsley, Kansas.

George was a very friendly and well-loved Custodian at First National Bank of Larned for over 40 years. George was a member of the Escue Chapel CME Church often helping with anything that needed to be done.

George attended Kansas State Teachers college in Emporia Ks on a football scholarship prior to returning home to help care for his ailing father. He also served in the United States Army and was a member of the Walter S. Chears American Legion Post #106 in Larned.

In 1973 George married the love of his life Ella Louise (Smith)Towns. With that Union he instantly became Pappa George/Grandpa George to her four sons and grandchildren. Two titles that he cherished beyond measure.

George loved the outdoors engaging in hunting, fishing, and grilling with BBQ ribs being his specialty.

George also loved gardening. He always had the most beautiful flowers as well as delicious fresh cut vegetables.

George loved family gatherings and would show his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren the beauty of outdoor life. You would often find them fishing or just playing around in the yard. George also loved playing dominos with his friends and family.

You could always count on George to make his daily rounds around town to make sure everyone was ok and where they were supposed to be. Folks would always wave as he drove by at 2 mph smoking his favorite cigar.

George was also known for his favorite song "Home on The Range" Which he would sing when overjoyed and happy. Often everyone would join in and sing along with him, and let's not forget his favorite parting words "And Have a Good Day!!" followed by his deep, unforgettable chuckle

George was preceded in death by his father George W Towns and Mother Alpha (Holt) Towns brother Eddie Towns and sisters Opal Towns, Vera Towns, and Melba Towns, his wife Ella Towns and son Everett Tomlin.

Survivors include his children, Jeffery Kaye (Tommie L.) Tomlin, Wichita, Wesley M.T. Re'Prah, and Donald J. (Patricia) Harper, both of Larned with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
