Jetmore - George Van Vleet, 83, died July 9, 2011, at his home. He was born June 20, 1928 at
Goodwell, Oklahoma, the son of George and Myrtle (Henderson) Van Vleet. He came with his family from the Greely County area in 1937 in a drought to Valley township where he died in a drought. He raised hogs and cattle and farmed. If some machine didn't work just right he would fix it until it did. He did almost all his own mechanic work. On June 24, 1954, he married Sylvia Fox. She survives. To this union four children were born: Gerry O'Connor, El Dorado; Rick Van Vleet and wife Marshiela, Kennewick, Washington; Garret Van Vleet and wife Sheila, Liberal. Grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin
Van Vleet, Kennewick, Washington; Eddy Van Vleet, Manhattan, Kansas; Kelli Van Vleet, San Antonio, Texas; Kaitlyn Van Vleet, Liberal, Kansas. He was preceded in death by an infant son Galen, his parents, two brothers, William and Nate; three sisters, Lena Yost,
Rosa Larkin, and Mary Burns and neices and nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be July 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Jetmore with Pastor Roger Alford presiding. Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore will be in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Ness County Home Health or Kansas State University Basic Cancer Research in care of the funeral home. He never knew a stranger.
