Obituary

Burdett - George E. York, 90, died October 2, 2009 at the Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita.

He was born April 28, 1919 in Hodgeman County the son of Harry Brown and Elsie Burnett York. A resident of the Burdett area for many years he was a Farmer, Stockman.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Burdett and the National Rifle Association.
On May 29, 1938 he married Viola Schlegel at Rush Center. She died October 3, 1968.

On September 20, 1971 he married Josephine Walters. She died August 17, 1997.

Survivors include: a son, Raymond and wife Dora, Haysville; a Daughter, Ellen Sorensen and Husband Larry, Banning, California; a Brother, Joe, Garden City; four grandchildren, eight Great-Grandchildren and six Great – Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death two sons, Robert Oliver and Melvin Dean; a brother, Harry Oliver; and three sisters, Ellen Jane York, Stella Sebes and Ferne McCoy.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Burdett, with Pastor Richard Zimmerman presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
