February 25, 1907 – February 5, 2009
She was born February 25, 1907 in Pawnee County, Kansas the daughter of John Henry and Lucy Matilda Buhrer Hays. A lifetime Pawnee County resident, she resided in Mt. Hope, Kansas since 2006 to be near family. She was a homemaker and retired Zook School lunch attendant.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Quilter, all of Larned, and the Zook Community Club, Zook, Kansas.
On July 9, 1930 she married Thomas Irvin Horton at Great Bend, Kansas. He died September 30, 1997.
Survivors include: two daughters, Ina Mae Slough, Silver Springs, Maryland, Zelma Ann Hanna, Burrton, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Stanley, Allen; a daughter, Mary Katherine Cunningham, a sister, Edith Sooby, three brothers, Jake, Albert, and William Hays.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. until service time Monday all at the mortuary. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, Kansas.
