Jetmore – Helen A. King, 93, was born on October 9, 1916 to Carl and Ella Shelton Larkin in rural Hodgeman County. Helen passed away on May 2, 2010 at the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Helen married Lloyd L. King on February 9, 1938 in Dodge City, Ks and they made their home in Jetmore where she was a beautician for the next 40 years. Lloyd preceded her in August 1986.
Helen's life centered around her family, church, and community where she served on various boards and committees: Jetmore School Board, Jetmore Public Library, Jetmore Country Club, and Boy Scouts of America. She was a faithful member of the Jetmore United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the UMW. In retirement years she loved to travel and visited several countries: Thailand, Japan, Peru, and Switzerland.
Her greatest joy was her family and her faith. Helen's love and commitment for those left behind will long be remembered by - her children, son, Danny & wife Naomi King of Jetmore and daughter Carla and husband Roger Wilson of Dodge City. She is also survived by granddaughters, Tricia Wilson of Dodge City, Danette and husband Todd Amstein, of Statesville, NC and Kristi and husband Ron Spencer of Joplin, Mo. Great-grandchildren, Meghan, Jacob, Logan, Madison, Jarod, Erin, Jack and Ethan. Her brother, Carl Larkin of Olathe, Ks and brother-in-law Ed and Carolyn King, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Edith Cohoon, brother, Vernon Larkin and her only grandson Steve King.
Helen's service will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Jetmore United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dick Robbins and Carolyn Tarman presiding. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore. Friends may call from 9am to 8pm Monday and Tuesday. Family present from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.
