Larned – Howard Vinson Carpenter, 92, died January 7, 2009 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Larned.
He was born April 18, 1916 in Pawnee County, Kansas the son of Wilford C. and Lucile Vinson Carpenter. A lifetime Pawnee County resident he was a Farmer.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Larned, attended Zook Public Schools and later graduated from the KU School of Business. He retired from farming in 1970 and was proud to have traveled to all 50 States and 7 Continents.
On October 25, 1986 he married Virginia Faye Simmons at Larned. She died January 31, 2008.
He was also preceded in death by two step-sisters, Florence Martin, Velma Goforth; a grandchild, Charla Brickey, and a nephew.
Survivors include: two step-daughters, Susann Cooksey, Littleton, Colorado, Elizabeth Brickey, Arkansas City, Kansas; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a niece; and a nephew.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10th at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Bill Fritzgerrel presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to service time at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.
