Obituary

Dodge City – Howard E. Schlereth, 87, died June 12, 2009, at his home in Dodge City.

He was born December 14, 1921, at Offerle, the son of Anna Mary and John Michael Knopp Schlereth. He was a farmer.

He belonged to the Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe, V.F.W., and American Legion, all of Dodge City, and he was in the United States Air Force.

He married Maudene Corey, then later, he married Maureen Smith at Beaver, Oklahoma, on April 29, 1981. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Greg Schlereth, Jetmore; three daughters, Sharon Guthrie, Sandy Hendrickson, Deanna Unruh, Jetmore, a step son Danny Mahieu, Fowler; three step daughters, Janet Enlow, Margie Delziet, Dodge city, Brenda Richman, Meade; one sister, Margaret Wolf, Dodge City; six grandchildren, fourteen step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a three brothers, Henry, Raymond, and George; a sister, Agnes Gladden.

Vigil will be at 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Ted Skalsky presiding. Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Saturday, and 9a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, with Military Graveside rites.

Memorials may be sent to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore or Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
