Iva Mae Grandy died on January 3rd at Hays Medical Center after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure.
She was born September 23rd, 1919 in Newton, KS, the daughter of Troy and Pearl Vesper. She met Harold Grandy at Garfield High School, and they were married October 22, 1937. They made Garfield their home while raising their family. She spent the last 20 years of her life in Larned.
Iva Mae worked at Larned State Hospital for over 25 years as an Escort Aide until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of the Great Bend Eagles Club, the over 50's Club, and a life-time member of the Garfield Methodist church. She loved to play cards and bingo, and her loving hands have crocheted afghans for all of her family members.
Iva Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and her daughter, Patricia Blackburn and her husband, Charles.
She is survived by her children and their families:
Charles (Jewel Lee), Appleton, WI, and children, Corinn (Jeff) Sevcik and Matthew (Jenny).
James (Paula), Larned, KS and children Deana (Larry) Peterson and Leann (Brad) Thomas and step children Heath (Heather) Burgardt and Joe Burgardt.
Gene, Wichita, KS and children Kyle (Erika), Chris (fiancé Raleen), Troy and Geena.
Patricia's son: Chad (Susan) Blackburn.
Additional survivors include 14 great grandchildren and Sister-in-Law, Grace Grandy.
A memorial service conducted by the family will be held January 7, 2010 at the Garfield Methodist Church at 11:00am, followed by a graveside service and a luncheon at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Garfield Methodist church and the Larned EMS service, both in care of the family, 320 W. 6th, Larned, KS 67550.
Cremation was handled by Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
