Obituary

Jetmore- James "Jim" Vernon Cossman, 91, passed away December 7, 2016 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS.

He was born December 7, 1925 in Dodge City, KS the son of John V. and Dessie Glunt Cossman. A lifetime area resident of Jetmore he was a farmer.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore. He attended Pleasant View country grade school and Jetmore High School and left in June of 1944 for the Navy with 6 other Jetmore friends for Farragut, Idaho Navy Training. He served aboard the USS Block Island Jeep Aircraft Carrier in the South Pacific until the end of WWII. He returned to Jetmore and began farming with his Dad 12 miles west and 2 miles north of Jetmore. He and Evelyn raised 4 children and continued to farm until failing health forced him to retire in 2012. He loved college basketball and loved watching the Royals and the Chiefs.

On August 3, 1947 he married Evelyn M. Colburn in Jetmore, Kansas; she passed away December 11, 2009.

Survivors include: One son, Stan (Beth) Cossman, Jetmore, KS.; three daughters, Jayme (JD) Nuss, Jetmore, KS., Lynette (Greg) Rasmussen, Floyds Knobs, IN, Kris (Jeff) Tanner, Manhattan, KS. and 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by, one grandson Justin Nuss, one brother Johnny Cossman, and two sisters Thelma Maxwell and Darlene Dugger.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Visitation will be held from 9 am to 8 pm Monday and Tuesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial with be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore following the service.
