Janice Kay Gleason, of Larned, KS passed away at Hospice House, in Hutchinson, KS, on March 10, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 74 years old.

Janice is survived by her son, Johnnie (Karine) Gleason of Belpre, KS, and daughter, Donita (Darin) Clawson of Larned, KS. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tyler Gleason, Madison Gleason, Aylice Clawson and Jocelyn Clawson. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Gleason, and her parents, Johnnie M. and Alyce V. Jones.

Janice was born on April 17, 1942 in Concordia, KS. An athletic girl, she pursued a degree in Physical Education from Fort Hays State University. She began her teaching career in Ulysses, where she met her husband, Donald Gleason. They married on February 26, 1966. Over the years, Janice shared her knowledge and skills, first as a teacher, then as a golf coach, leading 6 teams to a state championship. She later enjoyed cooking at the school and helping students learn essential skills in the Title program. Janice was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Larned Ladies Golf Association and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Janice was known for her hand-crafted creations including festive needle point Christmas Stockings and Jewelry Trees. A fierce competitor, she also enjoyed golf, puzzles, card games, and computer games. Other hobbies included family history research, gardening, nature watching and coffee with friends.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday March 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Rev. Bob Gleason presiding. Friends may sign the registry book between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Inurnment will be in the Larned cemetery following the memorial service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Janice's life.
