Obituary

Hanston - Jerry Pfeifer, 68, passed away January 5, 2018 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore, KS. He was cared for by their amazing staff and passed peacefully with his family in attendance. He was born September 15, 1949 to Alex and Josephine (Befort) Pfeifer in Hays, KS.

In 1967, he graduated from Hays High School in Hays, KS. On December 27, 1969 in Hays, KS he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Marie Graf. They were married for over 33 years when they divorced in 2003. After retiring he moved to Hanston to help Shirley care for their granddaughter, Elizabeth. He was a Hanston resident for 6 years.

Jerry was a jack-of-all trades and always had some sort of project going on in his life. He was very passionate about his music and shared his love and talent of music by playing dances. He enjoyed going to casinos, with Prairie Band north of Topeka, KS being his favorite. If you were up for a good competitive game he would challenge you to a game of cards, wii, or Scrabble. His orneriness and mischievous behavior kept everybody on their feet. Jerry served his country actively in the Army 2nd Infantry Division from 1969-1971 and in the US Army Reserves 1971-1975. He was also a lifetime VFW member.

Jerry is survived by Shirley (Graf) Pfeifer, Hanston, KS; Three daughters: Amanda and husband, Terry McCaddon, WaKeeney, KS; Theresa Pfeifer, Minneapolis, KS; Deborah and husband, Brigham Blackburn, Hutchinson, KS; Grandchildren: Jennifer McCaddon, Jeremiah Friend, Joseph Hernandez, Cody Schroeder, Jerrica Schroeder, Ava Blackburn, Callie Schroeder and Nola Blackburn; Sisters, Mildred Dinges and Norma Ruder; Brother, Leonard and wife Jan Pfeifer; Sister-in-law, Leona Pfeifer. Along with many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding Jerry in death are his parents; Brother, Edward Pfeifer; Brothers-in-law, LaVerne Dinges and LeRoy Ruder; Granddaughters, Alexandria Schroeder and Elizabeth Anne Pfeifer.

A Celebration of His Life will be 11 am Friday, January 19, 2018 at Elk Plaza (former Hanston High School), Hanston,KS. Although he donated his body to KU Medical Center, we know his soul will be waiting for us in Heaven.
