Jetmore – John G. Colburn, 80, died April 9, 2008, at his home in Jetmore.
He was born April 22, 1927 at Spearville, the son of Hiram H. and Bessie H. Bomberger Colburn. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/stockman.
He belonged to the United Presbyterian Church, where he was an church Elder, and choir member Lions Club, Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, all of Jetmore. He was a member of various Committees of Presbytery South west Kansas, Pawnee Water- shed Board, Wright Coop Board, and Volunteer for Hospice of the Prairie, American Hereford Association, Kansas livestock Association, and Manor of the Plains Board.
On November 24, 1950, he married Lois Ruth Gibbs at Dodge City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Phyllis Tucker and husband Cary, Smith Center; a brother, Robert Colburn, Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters, Evelyn Cossman, Jetmore, and Isabelle Kirschner, Kansas City, Missouri; Three grandchildren, John Tucker and wife Sarah and Mark Tucker, Wichita, and Sarah Tucker, Smith Center.
He was preceded in death by his son, William John Colburn; two brothers, Hiram Colburn Jr. and Ed Colburn; three sisters, Mary Koontz, Helen Colburn, and Betty Thompson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the United Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Friends may call from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
