Obituary

Garfield – John "Lorraine" Couchman, 78, died December 17, 2011 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

He was born April 25, 1933, at Larned, the son of John and Hazel (Deets) Couchman. He was a farmer/stockman all of his life, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rozel. He graduated from Garfield High School. He served in the United States Army, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal.

On December 9, 1956, he married Wilma Edna Webster in Larned. She survives.

Survivors include: three sons, John Couchman, Edina, MN, Stanley Couchman and wife Kateri, Scott City, Mark Couchman and wife Donna, Rozel; two daughters, Brenda Hays, Garden City, Dianne Gerber and husband Shane, Wichita; a sister, Marilyn Fulton; fourteen grandchildren, Tiffany Vande Kopple and husband Jonathan, Stockton, Tyson Couchman, and wife Kathy, Rozel, Corinna, Cailyn & Curran Couchman, Edina, MN, Alisha Shull, and husband Matt, Lee Summit, MO, Emily Hays, Garden City, Caleb, Cody & Colborn Couchman, Scott City; Four step grandchildren, Crystal Dahl, Edina, MN, Samantha, Debra & Cody Crook, Rozel; two great-grandsons, Cayden Couchman, Scott City and Zachary Shull, Lee Summit MO;

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brandon John Couchman.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, with Military Funeral Honors at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Rev. Brad McCoy presiding. Friends may sign the guest book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family burial at a later date.
