Dodge City – Jovita (Jobie) Rodriguez, 74, died June 17, 2007 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

She was born Feb. 15, 1933 in a Mexican village in Dodge City, the daughter of Juan and Felipa Martel Briseno. A lifetime Dodge City resident, she worked for Fairmont Foods in the ice cream department, volunteered at Miller School, enjoyed gardening and was a homemaker.

She belonged to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City

On November 7, 1953, she married Mike B. (Joker) Rodriguez in Dodge City. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Demetrius (Dino) Rodriguez, Dodge City; two daughters, Florina Rodriguez-Kappel and husband Mark, San Antonio, Texas and Amanda Rodriguez-Stroud and husband Chuck, Jetmore; two brothers, Louis Briseno and wife Nellie, Dodge City, Guadalupe (Lupe) Briseno, Newton; four sisters, Phyliss and Pilar Briseno, Dorothy Briseno and companion Brent Anderson, Dodge City, Julia Briseno-Pate and husband Wayne, Kansas City; Three grandchildren, Melissa Kappel, Slidell, Louisana, Justin Kappel, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Danielle Stroud, Jetmore.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Seraphina (Sera) Rodriguez; three brothers, Frank, Richard and Steven Briseno; two sisters, Dora and Sara Martinez.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Father Ted Skalsky presiding. Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe. Friends may call from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Monday, and 9a.m. to 5p.m. Tuesday, at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
