Jetmore – Carolyn "Kay" Leet, 72, died November 12, 2011, at Oakwood Annapolis Hospital, Wayne, Michigan.
She was born May 18, 1939, in Dodge City, the daughter of Olin E. and Marie I. Nelson Shumard. Her given name was Carolyn Kay, but she always went by Kay. During WWII she lived in Marquette, Kansas, and after the war her family moved to Ft. Dodge, Kansas, where she attended elementary school. Her family moved to Dodge City in 1951, and she attended Dodge City schools. In Junior and Senior High School she was active in the band and Orchestra. She excelled in Home Economics, especially in sewing, and continued as a seamstress throughout her life. She graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1957. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City, and active in the Church's youth group.
On August 12, 1972, she married Charles Leet Jr. in Dodge City.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women, a charter member of Theta Pi ESA, and the Jetmore Lions Club, all of Jetmore. During her lifetime, she worked at Western Power, Dodge City, the Hodgeman County Health Center and followed by being City Clerk of Jetmore and retiring after 27 years.
Survivors include: Husband; two sons, Lance Lochmann, Columbia, Missouri and Lincoln Lochmann, Dodge City; a daughter, Stacy Rhodes and husband Paul, Port Arthur, Texas; a brother, Paul Shumard, Chicago, Il; two grandsons, Charles Reese Rhodes, Austin, Texas and Trey Paul Rhodes and wife Shea, Orange, Texas; and many many friends.
Funeral will be at 11:00 am Friday at the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Thursday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
