Lewis - LaVeda I. Cross, 80, passed away July 3, 2017 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

She was born July 23, 1936 in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Olin R. and Irene M. Kitchen Bernstorf. LaVeda moved to Chase at a young age and lived there until she was in the third grade, then her family moved to Lewis, where she was a longtime resident and a farmwife.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lewis; was a foster parent, a CASA board member, was active at the Meadowlark library, Lewis and the Wheat Belt Girl Scout Council.

In November of 1958 she married W.B. Cross in Larned; he passed away May 6, 1985.

Survivors include; a son, Brian (Jill) Cross, Lewis; a daughter, Gay Lynne Cross, Dodge City; a sister Mona Marie Wysong, Larned; a brother, Larry Bernstorf, Derby and two grandchildren, Clara Cross and Clayton Cross, both of Lewis.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Lewis with Pastors Melissa Naylor and Bill Stapleton presiding. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery, Lewis.
