Obituary

Burdett  - Lelia May Pelton, 92, peacefully went to be with her Lord on May 14, 2018.  She was born May 9, 1926 in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Louis Litt (L.L.) and Hazel Saxton Steffen.

Leila May attended Elmdale #60 Country School a half mile from her home where she graduated from 8 th grade in 1940 as part of the Pawnee County Rural Schools.  She then attended Burdett High School where she was very active in the Glee Club and Band.  She graduated in 1944 and then attended Sterling College where she received an Elementary Emergency Teaching Certificate.  Lelia May's teaching career included Elmdale Country School, Burdett Elementary School, and Pleasant Point #24 Rural School.

Lelia May married Arthur Ross Pelton on August 3, 1947.  She became a full time homemaker and farmer's wife.  Some of her hobbies included sewing, crafts, and scrapbooking.  She also took great pride in cleaning out drawers and being a wonderful organizer.  Everything she got her hands on was labeled properly - even Ross' work shed.  All the bolts and screws had their proper home!

In addition to raising their five children, Lelia May taught Sunday school for many years.  She also helped with Vacation Bible School and Awana's on many occasions.  She had a heart for missions and supported several children for many years and faithfully attended Faith Fellowship Church of Gray, Kansas.

Lelia May was preceded in death by; her parents, husband, son, Richard and one grandson Kyle Pelton.

She is survived by; four sons, Gary (Donna), Lynn (Sue) both of Burdett, Basil (Jami) of Owasso, OK, and Galen (Robin) of Ulysses; one daughter, Jolene (Brad) McCoy of Burdett; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

The celebration of Lelia's life will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 at Faith Fellowship Church, Gray, Kansas with Pastor Doug Ellison presiding.  Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday with family present from 6-8 pm at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.  Burial will be in Brown's Grove Cemetery, Burdett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Faith Fellowship Mission Project, in care of Beckwith Mortuary, P.O. Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.
