Leona Ruth Hockett, 88, passed away December 6, 2022 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born September 19, 1934 in rural Burdett, the daughter of William Carl and Sarah Christina Schwindt Sucht.

A lifetime area resident, she was of the protestant faith. She was the assistant manager and then later the manager at T.M. Deal Lumber for thirty plus years, and a member of the Fort Larned Lions Club. Her hobbies included: cake decorating, painting, upholstery, and cooking.

On June 20, 1954 she married Wendell D. Griffin; they later divorced and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2018.

On August 8, 1992 she married Lee Hockett at Longford, Kansas; he preceded her in death on September 29, 2017.

Survivors include: daughter, Brenda (Brian) Reed, Larned; three sons, David (Teresa) Griffin Sr., Larned, Bruce (Elizabeth) Griffin, Larned, Byron Griffin, Larned; brother, Carl Sucht, Dodge City; seven grandchildren, David (Ginny) Griffin Jr., Heather (Cody) Folmer, Jessica Woods, Devin (Kristin) Reed, Kyle (Jessica) Reed, Carly Reed-Leiker, Bill (Sarah) Griffin; twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don Sucht.

Cremation has taken place and Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary with Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 5, 2023. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery.
