Martha Ann Scranton, 79, passed away May 13, 2024 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born April 26, 1945 in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of James Nelson and C. Lucile Myers Deason.

A longtime area resident, she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963 and earned degrees from Kansas University and Kansas State University.  She moved to Larned with her husband Ron in 1972 and purchased the Larned Greenhouse and added a Flower Shop and Nursery. The business closed in 2012. Martha was active in the community, serving on many boards and committees. Martha belonged to AAUW, Larned Garden Club, Fort Larned Historical Society and Fort Larned Old Guard.

On April 8, 1967 she married Ronald F. Scranton in Lawrence, Kansas; he preceded her in death on June 15, 2016.

Survivors include: daughter, Kimberly (Jay) Holthaus, Leawood, Kansas; three granddaughters, Gretchen (Joey) Barenberg, Dallas, Texas, Maureen Holthaus, Chicago, Illinois, and Alison Holthaus, Leawood, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Sonya Steeples, Hays, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron, and brother James Deason.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, Kansas. Burial will be at Hill City Cemetery in Hill City, Kansas.
