Jetmore- Mary Alice Bohling, 78, passed away August 19, 2015 at the Hodgeman County Long-Term Care Center, Jetmore.
She was born January 21, 1937 in Colorado Springs, CO., the daughter of Harold Vernon and Alice Louella Curtis Root. She graduated from Colorado College Phi Beta Kappa. She began her teaching career in Barstow, California and then later moved back to Pueblo, Colorado and continued her teaching. During this time she was also a Girl Scout Camp Counselor.
On June 6, 1965, she married Marvin Lee Bohling in Colorado Springs, CO. and then became a lifetime area resident of Jetmore. She enjoyed the role of being a farm wife and mother.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dodge City, where she taught Sunday school and served on numerous church committees. She was a Thrivent regional speaker and ran for state representative. Education continued to be important to her as she served on the local school board and was a child care advocate. She enjoyed following baseball and was an avid Colorado Sky Sox baseball fan to the very end.
Survivors include: her husband, Marvin Lee Bohling, Jetmore; two daughters, Diane Hanson, Topeka, KS. and Lou Ann Barker and husband A.C., Ulysses, KS.; one brother, Harold Vernon Root Jr., Greeneville, TN. and five grandchildren, Jason Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Dalton Barker, Nina Barker and Luke Barker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Lee Bohling.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dodge City with Pastor Chris Conner presiding. Inurnment will be in Christ the King Lutheran Cemetery, Dodge City.
