Obituary

Mrs. Juanita Quimby
August 5th- 1913 - January 24, 2007

Mrs. Juanita Quimby, a long-time resident of Larned, passed away on January 24, 2007 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born Mary Juanita Pearl Lowe in Webb City, Missouri on August 5, 1913. She and her husband Delmar Quimby operated a farm north of Larned.

Mrs. Quimby was well known for her devotion to God and was very active in the First Baptist Church in Larned. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years to multitudes of young boys, whom she loved dearly. She was also active in Vacation Bible School and was always eager to bring the young kids to her home to share with them life on the farm. Recently when the First Baptist Church of Larned held its final service, several of her former students stood to remember and to share of Mrs. Quimby's devotion to them and her importance in their lives. There were very few Easters that went by that she didn't rouse her children, and later her grandchildren, to head out in the early morning cold to watch the Easter Pageant on Pawnee Rock Hill.

Mrs. Quimby held a tremendous amount of pride in both the town of Larned and the State of Kansas. In her latter years, sunflowers always adorned her room and she was always proud to share that they were the state flower of Kansas. After moving to Oklahoma late in life, when she required more extensive care, she still subscribed to the Tiller and Toiler newspaper so she could keep up with the news of the people in the town that she loved.

Mrs. Quimby was also widely known and appreciated for her generosity and her love of children. During the many years that her husband drove a school bus, it was Mrs. Quimby that fixed bags of treats for her husband to distribute. She wrote many inspirational poems and truly enjoyed the natural beauty of her farm. She loved watching the birds and wildlife, and shared a great deal of her knowledge with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delmar Quimby, her two daughters, Phyllis Loomis and Reba Dell Carney and one grandson, Steve Quimby. Surviving are her sons Delmar Quimby of Council Hill, Oklahoma, Dean Quimby of Derby, Kansas, Gene Quimby of Garber, Oklahoma, and Ron Quimby of Larned, Kansas. In addition she is also survived by her beloved sister, Opal Collins of Maple Texas. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Rev. John Hester presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to service time Monday all at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

Memorials may be sent to The First Baptist Church in care of Beckwith Mortuary, Inc. P.O. Box 477, Larned,KS 67550.
