Larned – Mary Elizabeth Schartz. 99, passed away July 9, 2017, at Country Living of Larned.

She was born December 4, 1917, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of John A. Jr. and Nellie E. Hanville Northart. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and loved being a farm wife.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Larned.

On June 2, 1937, she married William (Bill) J. Schartz in Ellinwood. He passed away June 8, 2007.

Survivors include: two sons, LeRoy William (Elnora) Schartz, Sedgwick, KS, Daniel Jerome (Mary) Schartz, Gothenburg, NE; daughter, Patricia A. Thompson, Larned; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, (no fingers Bill); son, Robert A. Schartz; two brothers, Paul and Leo Northart and two sisters, Ella Bonham and Betty Simmonis.

Vigil and rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Belpre Catholic Cemetery, Belpre.
