Jetmore – Maudene L. Fakes, 92, passed away November 14, 2023 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore.

She was born October 4, 1931 in Jetmore, the daughter of Roy and Estella Elizabeth Bickel Corey.  A lifetime area resident, she was a food service supervisor for twenty-five years at the Fort Dodge Kansas Soldiers' Home.

She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Dodge City.

She married Howard Schlereth and then later married Mervin Fakes.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sharon Guthrie, Sandy Hendrickson and Deanna Unruh, all of Jetmore; two step children, Connie Yeager, MO and Dennis Fakes, AL; brother, Verle (Donna) Corey, Pueblo, CO; sister, Katy Johnson, Hugoton; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Howard Schlereth and Mervin Fakes; son, Gregory Schlereth; brother, Roy Corey and two sisters, Laura Law and Opal Gibbs.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be at a later date.
