Obituary

Hanston - Nehemiah James Rittenhouse, 90, died August 10, 2007 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, following a short illness.

He was born September 26, 1916 in Northeast Hodgeman County, the son of Nehemiah (Butch) and Mable Lillian Eakin Rittenhouse. James was not only a lifetime resident of Hodgeman County, but he lived all but a couple of his 90 years in the same house in which he was born. He attended schools in Hanston as well as Fort Hays State University.

He was a member of the Christian faith. He wrote about many Christian topics, frequently using the pen-name, "Justa Cloddhopper". He enjoyed opportunities to share his writings with others.

On June 16, 1937 he married Grace LaFaun McNabney in rural Hanston. Together they bought the home place from James' parents and began farming and raising livestock. She died November 19, 2002.

Survivors include: a son, James Kent Rittenhouse, and a daughter Marilea Ann Rittenhouse, both of Hanston; two grandsons, Aaron and Tim Rittenhouse; one granddaughter, Brenda Carroll; four great grandchildren and four great-stepgrandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Kenneth Floyd Rittenhouse.

Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore with the Rev. Roger Alford presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Beckwith Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
