Nancy Anne
Maskus
December 7, 1942 – February 9, 2025
Nancy Anne Maskus, known as Meme by those who loved her, passed away February 9, 2025 at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore at the age of 82.
Nancy was born December 7, 1942 in Sterling, Kansas. She was the daughter of John T. and Bethel Briscoe. Nancy attended grade school in Nickerson, Kansas before moving to southwest Kansas where she graduated from Montezuma Rural High School. After graduation, she moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she met the love of her life, Robert. Despite Robert being drafted to the disputes in Korea, Nancy and Robert's love story continued strong through numerous love letters from all over the world including Korea, Japan, and Saint Lucia. They married shortly after Bob's return to the United States on May 28, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Dodge City. They moved to the Maskus family farm where they started their life together and Meme began her legacy as a wonderful mother and homemaker. Nancy and Bob welcomed two daughters Julie and Dana that were the highlight of her life.
As the wife of a farmer and homemaker, Nancy enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens, canning her own jellies and fruits, and perfecting her many recipes for homemade meals including her famous gingerbread cookies and cinnamon rolls. Nancy had a knack for creativity and spent many days in her craft room sewing quilts and making other masterpieces as well as spending sunny days fishing with her friends and family. Later in life, Nancy also took an interest in playing lottery tickets, Keno, and slot machines and somehow was always lucky with her winnings! Nancy was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and the Holy Cross Lutheran Church as well as the Family and Community Education homemakers' group. Nancy was an avid 4-H participant in her youth.
Above all else, Nancy looked forward most to time spent with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren fondly remember their many walks around the farm and lakes, staying up late into the evenings playing games as a family, and Meme making the grandkids' favorite foods at any time of the day (or night) at their request. The memories and laughs made while spending many summer trips and vacations together as a family with their Meme will always be lovingly remembered. While their time together was short, Meme also became a great-grandmother in June 2024 and loved laughing and visiting with Maisie.
No matter who you are, everyone knew and loved Nancy for her spunky and fiery personality. While Nancy was strong-willed and spoke her mind, she was always willing to help her Jetmore community by volunteering at the school, making treats whenever asked, and helping with the floral arrangements on Main Street.
Nancy will be missed dearly by daughters Julie Harms and husband Vaughn of Jetmore, Kansas and Dana Fairbank and husband Jim of Cimarron, Kansas; grandchildren Tanner Harms of McPherson, Kansas, Chipper Harms of Jetmore, Kansas, Brandi Stewart and husband Gary of Lindsborg, Kansas; and great-granddaughter Maisie Stewart. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings Paul Briscoe, Sue Glenn, Margaret Foreman, and Mary Ross, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Nancy dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert; and her siblings John Briscoe, Ellen Newton, and Jan Kelpe.
Please join the family for a celebration of Nancy's life at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Cheyenne Hills Golf Course clubhouse in Jetmore, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, PO Box 663, Jetmore, KS 67854.
