Obituary

Jetmore – Nicholas "Nick" Leroy Goebel, 93, passed away December 15, 2021 at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, Jetmore.

He was born September 29, 1928 in Hodgeman County, the son of William Nicholas and Emma L. Sinclair Goebel. He attended Hodgeman County schools and graduated from high school in 1943.  He loved basketball, both playing as a young man and also attending his children's and grandchildren's games in his adulthood.  He was also an avid KU basketball fan.

A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/rancher for many years in northwest Hodgeman County.  He and his wife Pat owned and operated the Longhorn Café in Jetmore for approximately 10 years.  Nick then worked at Cheyenne Hills Golf Course many years, and hole 2 is dedicated to Nick Goebel, the "Golf Marshal."

He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore and a 4 th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus .

On August 2, 1951 he married Wilma "Pat" Ann Irsik in Dodge City.  She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Kim (Sue) Goebel, Overland Park, Bill Goebel and Lynn (Cindy) Goebel, both of Jetmore; four daughters, Susan (Scot) McKibbin, Barb (Russ) Hunt, both of Jetmore, Jane (Jerry) Clarke, Ness City, Mary Steckline, Overland Park; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Nick had a special love for all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He and Pat kept a running list of their ever increasing number of great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Madonna I. McGaughey.

Due to covid, the rosary, vigil and memorial mass will be held for private family only.  Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.  Public graveside will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2022 at Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.

Memorials may be given to Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center or Cheyenne Hills Golf Course in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Box 663 Jetmore, KS 67854.
