Jetmore – L. Richard Burns, 74, died August 3, 2012 at his home in Jetmore.
He was born March 21, 1938, in Hodgeman County, the son of John E. and Joy Koontz Burns. A lifetime area resident, he worked for Curtis Machine in Dodge City for 19 years, a farmer/rancher, and was a heavy equipment operator for the Hodgeman County Road Department.
He was of the Christian faith. He served in the United States Army.
On June 3, 1961, he married Theresa Zimmer at Jetmore. She survives.
Other Survivors include: two daughters, Laurie Hann and husband John, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Terri Burns-Pfaff and husband Delane, Jetmore; a brother, Ronald and wife Brenda, Wakeeney; three sisters, Ruby Schaffer and husband Dan, Spearville, Marilyn Demoret and husband Gene, Jetmore, Sherry Julian and husband Ron, Rogers, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Ellen Burns, Ransom; daughter-in-law, Angie Burns; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Burns, Braden Wilson and Kelley Wilson; three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John G. and Douglas L; a brother, Alvin, and a great grandson, Gage Wilson.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore, with Father Maurice Cummings presiding. Visitation will be from 1p.m. to 8p.m. Sunday and 9a.m. to 8p.m. Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, with Military Graveside Rites.
