Richard E. Hager, 88, died October 13, 2009, with his son by his side. As was Rich's wish, he will be laid to rest in the family plot in Belpre, Kansas. A graveside service will be held on November 7, 2009 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel presiding the service will be conducted by Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. A reception will follow at the Belpre Community Center.
Rich was born September 11, 1921, in Belpre, KS, to Mary and Elmer Hager. He graduated from Belpre High School with the class of 1939, received his BS from Lewis and Clark College,Portland Oregon, and his Masters in Social Work from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II.
Rich worked for the Oregon Department of Human Resources from 1949-1987. He retired as the regional manager for adult and family services in the southern region.
After his retirement, Rich resided in Medford, OR, where he enjoyed many activities and friendships. He especially looked forward to spending time with his granddaughter.
Rich is survived by his sister, Doris Switzer and her husband Max; adopted son, Jeff Rue and his wife Shona; and granddaughter Karissa Rue. He is also survived by five nieces, Donna Bosley, Glee White, Bobbie Ard, Sheli Snyman, and Susan Allred; extended family; and countless friends. He will be greatly missed.
