Obituary

Hutchinson – Robert "Bob" King, 72, died Tuesday, December 18, at the Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson.

He was born January 22, 1935 at Larned the son of Leo and Maurine Miner. They divorced and Maurine married David King who adopted Bob. A resident of Hutchinson since 2004 moving from Larned, he and his first wife moved back to Larned in 1994 to help care for his parents.

He was educated primarily in Pawnee County schools, including Zook, Rozel and various wards of Larned. He attended 8th and first three years of High School in Larned. He then moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico for his senior year of high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah and spent 2 years in the Army Reserve. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, and later a Master of Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. He spent 30 years in the Federal government, working for the Department of the Army and the Environmental Protection Agency in Utah, Colorado, Washington, D. D. and Maryland. After retirement in 1990 he operated a small training and consulting business, completely retiring in 2003.

One of Bob's great loves was travel, and through business and personal opportunities, he was able to visit all 50 states, the Caribbean a number of time, Costa Rica, Australian and New Zealand.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, but always considered the Zook Methodist church, which later merged with the First United Methodist Church in Larned, as his home church. He had the opportunity to be involved in the Cusillo and Emmaus movement in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, and served on a number of teams. In Kansas, he was involved in the Bread of Life Emmaus Community and very deeply involved in the activities of the Kairos Kairos Prison Ministries International Community. He was a former Ft. Larned Lions Club member, Toast Masters, and a 40 year member of AA.

On June 21, 1969 he married Margaret "Peg" Ann Kinneer at Denver, Colorado. She died March 9, 1998. On November 24, 2000 he married Gloria Chapman at Larned. She survives.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe King.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Larned with Pastors Bill Fitzgerrel and Charles Grant presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook.
