Garfield - Russell Dean Bird, 78, died May 20, 2008 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Larned.

He was born February 23, 1930 in Larned, the son of Ralph Russell and Sarah Grace Monger Bird. He was a Farmer.

A lifetime Pawnee County resident, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Garfield, and a former member of the Catholic Church.

On September 24, 1960 he married Karen Ann Everett at Seward, she died January 18, 1968. On August 10, 1969 he married Bonnie Lou Deets at Garfield, she survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Russell D. Bird Jr., Fowler, Charles R. and Randall R., both of Larned, Alan L. Garfield, a daughter, Debbie Bird, Larned and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen; a son, Michael and a sister, Joyce Losey.

Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery.
