Obituary

Jetmore – Shirley Jean Hargadine, 71, passed away June 25, 2022 at St. Catherine Hospital, Centura Health in Dodge City, Ks.

She was born November 15, 1950 in Greensburg, KS, the daughter of Wayne and Elizabeth Knapp Thompson.  A lifetime area resident, she was a retired school teacher, for 30 plus years at the Jetmore Grade School, Jetmore, KS.

Shirley loved to scrapbook, bowl, quilt and spend time at the casino, where she would always win.  She enjoyed hunting with her husband, going to gun shows and she was an avid sports fan. Anyone that spent time around Shirley knew she had a strong love for diet pepsi and chocolate. Shirley and Roy spent many summers living and working in Estes Park, CO.

On August 5, 1972, she married her high school sweetheart, Roy Dean Hargadine in Mullinville, KS.  He passed away July 11, 2020.

Survivors include: brother, Larry (Tricia) Thompson, Lawrence, KS; two sisters, Linda (Paul) Kendall, Mullinville, KS, Karen (Kent) Fravel, Ford, KS; three nephews, Kevin (Laura) Fravel, Ford, KS, Lee (Ashton) Kendall, Pratt, KS, Cody Thompson, Kansas City, KS; eight nieces, Paula (Rocky) Watson, Boiling Springs, OK, Lisa (Garry) Brown, Mullinville, KS, Pamela (Chris) Shanline, Pratt, KS, Misti (Jason) Towry, Ford, KS, Gina (Toby) Scott, Bucklin, KS, Brooke Thompson, Kansas City, MO, Bridgette Hargadine, Florida, Erika Hargadine, Seattle, WA,  and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place.  Celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with officiant John Knapp presiding. The family requests casual attire for her service.  Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.  Inurnment will follow around 11:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Roy Hargadine Memorial Shooting Range or Hodgeman County Schools in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Box 663 Jetmore, KS 67854.
